We're always inspired by Australian designers, and fashion week 2013 was no exception. With a perfect mix of beachy, edgy, and fashion-forward looks coming down the runway, we're more excited about Aussie fashion than ever. What's even more exciting, though? Thrifted & Modern is heading down under for the The Sydney Fair! We'll be representing vintage fashion among an amazing group of sellers specializing in collectible art and design from the 1920s to the 1960s. The Sydney Fair runs from Thursday, June 13 to Sunday, June 16 at Byron Kennedy Hall, Entertainment Quarter, Moore Park 2012, and we'll be there for the whole shebang — Thursday 6-9pm for opening night, Friday and Saturday 11am-7pm, and Sunday 11am-5pm (more info here). There will be awesome special events like fashion parades and a jazz party, and some of our best pieces will be making the journey with us, so be sure to come see us and score some amazing, runway-worthy vintage in Sydney!

Ladies, get your scissors ready! Cut outs are all the rage for Summer 2013, giving our clothes an eye catching edgy twist that we can't resist. Versace keeps the trend on point by creating asymmetrical silhouettes and adding feminine touches of lace and airy fabrics.

Emilio Pucci wows us with his contrast of solid and sheer fabrics...and don't even get us started on the sheer baroque cut out jacket. Emilio Pucci, you are a genius.

Carven makes us do a double take and leaves us dreaming for weeks about that little red dress. We love how they use a simple bean like shape to create a cut out silhouette that makes us want more!

Cut out overload! We adore Alexander Wang's modern approach to this trend with his cut out stripe patterns and boxy silhouettes. He even takes the cut out trend from head to toe with his strappy sandals and cut out knee high boots. Well done Mr. Wang, well done.
Be sure to shop our store for our amazing cut out pieces!

Meet Rachel Kaye, a local San Francisco artist whose work is fun, brilliant, and something our eyes just couldn't ignore! Inspired by adventuring in and around Golden Gate Park, her work is all about patterns, bright colors, and geometrics. "Pattern is everything" according to Rachel and when asked if her art had a soundtrack, what would it be? She responded with David Bowie, oh and did we mention her style icon is Iris Apfel? This gal knows whats up! Not only is her artwork swoon worthy, but her relaxed yet intricate style of work makes us want to be her new BFF.
Check out more of Rachel's work here and find out where you can see her latest work!
